Common Questions About Child Care
Q. Can I ask a provider to see her license?
Yes, the license & inspection certificates should be posted in clear view.
Q. Why can’t my baby go to a center-based program?
There are a limited number of center-based programs that provide care for infants (6-8 weeks – to 12 months) with cost and availability being factors to consider. Most center-based programs accept children starting at 2.6 – 2.9 yrs, however there is an increase in programs opening classrooms for children beginning at 2.0 yrs. and younger. For the most part, infants and toddlers are cared for by informal providers such as family members, friends or in licensed and registered Family/Group Family Care.
Q. Who is going to pay for child care?
Parents are responsible for the cost of child care. However, income eligible families can apply for a subsidy via the Administration for Children’s Services, Child Care Division to assist in paying for child care. Administration for Children's Services Parent/s who are returning to work, training or school after receiving public assistance are also eligible for child care subsidy.
